the most important blog post of the year

Dear Reader,

This year, NativityMissions is bringing some new direction and focus to our various methods of communication. There are some great ways for you to get connected to the world of NativityMissions through social media. So here's what you can expect from us in the coming year...

This Blog (http://nativitymissions.org) will have a new focus: leadership. Each week I will lay out something that's on my mind about leadership, a topic I'm reading about or struggling with, or maybe a concept we have or haven't learned in our efforts to mobilize the Nativity community to serve. (We're also going to experiment with doing a podcast.) The rest of the week will be a discussion -- that's where you come in. Post your comments on the blog, and be sure to see what others are saying as well.

Like us on our our Facebook page (Nativity Missions) and
check us out there for information about local, national, and international Missions opportunities. For example, this weekend at Kickoff, we'll be rolling out six new local organizations that we'll be working with in the coming year. Facebook will also have a heavy focus on telling stories, both about experiences our members are having as well as stories from our partners.

Follow our Twitter accounts (@cn_missions and @bpcrook) for Missions trip updates, behind-the-scenes photos, scripture quotes, and some nonsense for sure. Twitter is another great way to join in on the conversation and share your thoughts about what NativityMissions is up to.

Seth Godin in his book Tribes distinguishes between groups and tribes -- a tribe is a group that is connected to one another, a leader, and an idea. Godin argues the only two things required to turn a group into a tribe is a shared interest and a way to communicate. All four lines of communication (leader to tribe, tribe to leader, tribe member to tribe member and tribe member to outsider) are crucial to becoming an influential tribe.

The NativityMissions Blog, Facebook, and Twitter allow us to take advantage of all four of these ways of communicating and at a rate that's faster than ever. You, friend, are part of the NativityMissions tribe. You're connected to our work and have input that necessary to helping us influence our world for Christ. Join in on the conversation and plug into the great work of Missions. I can't wait to see what God will do in our midst throughout the year ahead...

Best,

Brian Crook
Director of Missions

  1. Hi Brian,
I see where you are really on a MISSION. Nicely done. Enjoyed reading this blog and I also checked out the "Tribe" author, Seth Godin. He has written some very interesting books. This will prompt me to read, or skim, a few of them. I must say some have amusing titles.
    Good luck this weekend.

  2. Love all the different suggestions/opportunities to share experiences, stories & ideas. I haven't read this book by Seth Godin yet, but it seems that shared experiences also add to the creation of "tribe". The momentum of Missions at Nativity is growing and it's great to be part of the adventure of what God is doing!
