Today's Home Team reflection is from JJ Beers. JJ was a member of last summer's Travel Team as well:
It is funny how things happen, and more so for a reason. I did come across my journal from last year when we (Ellen, Jeanette, Mitch and I) were on our mission trip to Haiti. We did not know what to expect. We were going to build physical, emotional, and spiritual relationships with Fr. Wilner, the children attending the camp, and the people in Labrande. I can think of many
ways this was accomplished, but I will reflect on two.
One is by feeding the lambs. Jesus charged Peter to feed the lambs. The lambs we are feeding are the precious children we are meeting and interacting with at the camp. How do we do this? Simply by story, verse, and song. They are attentive, engaged, mesmerized by our presence, curious, interested, and not distracted by modern technology. They are physically being feed by the feeding program. And, emotionally it is exciting for them to have company. It's like having your relatives come to visit. How cool is that!
Second is by being thankful. We are thankful for having this relationship with St. Anne's Church. Everyone we have met, and those in our future, give us opportunities to "go out and make disciples" as we are meant to do. Having an attitude of thankfulness sets the tone for acknowledging that God is our provider. Keep your eyes open to the wonderful gifts God tucks into difficult situations you may see.
To this year's Travel Team: May you continue to be blessed by His loving presence as you add many more links to our relationship with the beautiful children and people in Labrande.
